Margaret Lackey State Missions Benefits JCBA
For many years, the Margaret Lackey State Missions Offering has greatly benefited the Jackson County Baptist Association (JCBA). Below are a few ways: Disaster Relief: Following Katrina, churches in our association greatly benefited from the resources provided from the State Missions Offering. Mission Trip Assistance: This year, mission volunteers from JCBA were assisted with funds to go to Alaska, Uganda, and Ethiopia. Hispanic Ministries: The JCBA Hispanic Ministry in was launched as part of the Cross Cultural Missions Strategy.
Port Ministry: For many years, funds have been directed to the ministry offered at the Port of Pascagoula through the two Seamen’s Centers. Baptist Student Union: This Summer, four BSU Summer Missionaries that attend the Gautier Campus of MGCCC benefited from these funds. Joe Luna, BSU Intern, was given partial financial support that allowed him to minister through the association this summer. Additionally, the State Missions Offering has provided grants for outreach events, English as a Second Language Classes, and the local prison ministry.
These are just a few of the many ways the Margaret Lackey State Missions Offering has been used to benefit JCBA. Please pray about what God would have your church give. Also, please remember these funds are granted, as available, to churches and their members who participate in the offering regardless of the amount given. If you would like a speaker to help you promote the offering, please contact JCBA. Also, you can find promotional materials on the MBC website at www.mbcb.org.

“Saw” You at the Pole Rally, Sept. 22
The annual international day of student prayer, See You at the Pole (SYATP), will be observed on the morning of September 22, 2010 at schools around the country and world. To help support and encourage students to make a positive impact for Christ upon their campuses, a SYATP Rally will be held at the Gautier Convention Center on Wed., Sept. 22 at 6:30 PM.
This national emphasis began in 1990. A small group of teenagers in Burleson, TX, came together for a DiscipleNow weekend. During the weekend, the students were burdened for their friends. So, that night, they drove to three different campuses, gathered around the flagpoles at each site and prayed. This simple act of obedience was used by God to establish SYATP as a national and global observance. In the US, more than two million students from all 50 states participate in SYATP. Additionally, students in more than 20 countries take part For more information, contact, Wayne McMahon at 228-355-0242.

Haiti Partnership Being Fulfilled
Since 2004, Wade Baptist has supported an orphanage in Haiti. Following the devastating earthquake and tremors in January 2010, the Executive Team voted to partner with the orphanage to provide assistance. Trips have been taken to Haiti in the last several months to help minister and provide for the more than 100 children in the orphanage. On October 14-17, a team from Wade Baptist and representatives from JCBA plan to travel to Port-Au-Prince to further access the needs and determine the possibility and feasibility of assisting the orphanage in obtaining more suitable housing and cooking arrangements. Please remember this team. If you desire more information and/or would like to be involved, please contact L.C. Drawdy at (228) 588-3356.
UGANDA MISSION TRIP From the Director, Philip Price
JCBA is sponsoring a Uganda Mission Team this fall. From October 30 to November 13, fifteen individuals will be traveling to Uganda for the third year to fulfill our partnership with Missionaries George and Geraldine Smith. Nine members of the mission team are from the Jackson County Baptist Association. I am excited to be one of the members of the team. Also, included on the team are Charles Rodgers, former DOM of JCBA, as well as individuals from Grenada and Union Counties.
The team will be working with people living on the islands of Lake Victoria, who have proven to be open to the Gospel, but have had limited exposure to a Christian witness. For the first time, the children on the islands will be offered a Vacation Bible School. Also, the team will minister in villages, prisons, and the area hospital. Additionally, evangelism teams will witness to villagers and the pastors on the trip will train local pastors. Prior to the team’s arrival, Pastor David Williams (Temple Baptist) will venture into the Congo beginning October 18 with Missionary George Smith and Kevin Smith from Missouri to explore starting a ministry to the Pygmies, an unreached people group. Please pray for the team. There is great spiritual oppression in this area. So, we greatly need your prayers before and during the trip. If you would like more information about the trip and/or specific prayer requests, please contact me or Rev. David Williams at (228) 588-6245.
